1984 Bristol 38.8

The Bristol 38.8 is a well-built fiberglass cruising sailboat from 1984, known for strong performance in both offshore and coastal waters. She is powered by a 44 hp Universal diesel engine with low hours and a history of reliable operation. The boat was stored indoors for most of her life and comes with a winter cover, frame, and jack stands.

The sails include a radial-cut main, 125% genoa, working jib, and #2 jib, all in sound condition, along with a cruising spinnaker with sock and whisker pole. Standing rigging was replaced around 2016. The deck features teak grating, a teak wheel, four teak dorade boxes with chrome scoops, high toe rail, and teak and stainless steel rub rail. Self-tailing winches handle sheets and headsail furling, with dedicated reefing and jib sheet winches. A dodger with large opening window and bimini top provide weather protection, complemented by multiple sun awnings.

Below, the layout includes a forward berth with custom bedding, salon bunk with canvas for offshore sailing, and well-appointed accommodations. A 2020 Seafrost refrigerator with 11 cubic feet of capacity, three-burner Shipmate stove with oven, and comprehensive galley systems support extended cruising. Two 8D Lifeline house batteries (2020) supply 550 amp hours, supported by a Balmar generator, 110v inverter/charger, and solar panels with MPPT controller.

Navigation and safety systems are extensive: dual Garmin chart plotters, Raymarine autopilot with independent helm-cable backup, Simrad VHF with AIS, comprehensive instrumentation across Raymarine and B&G displays, and an updated NMEA 2000 network. All lighting has been converted to LED. A Fortress anchor with 300 feet of rode, anchor roller and locker, double lifelines (2020), and comprehensive safety equipment round out the outfit. The transmission clutch was rebuilt in 2018, and various systems have been upgraded through 2023.
