The Hank Hinckley OC42 is a 42-foot composite sailing yacht built in 1984 with traditional design and quality Maine craftsmanship. Hand-laid fiberglass construction features an Airex foam core hull with an antimony lead keel, fiberglass composite deck with balsa core, and structural bulkheads of marine plywood fiberglassed to the hull and deck. The hull was stripped and repainted in 2023. Teak appointments throughout include toe rails, eyebrows, handrails, cockpit coamings, companionway trim, and a dorade box. The boat carries a comprehensive stainless steel package: bow and stern rails, stanchions, double lifelines, deck fittings, cleats in Herreshoff style, and rigging. The large traditional aft cockpit features full-length settees with access to sail locker storage, teak decking and seating, deep coamings with varnished caps, and an Edson helm pedestal with destroyer-style wheel.
The interior is finished in varnished butternut with teak and holly cabin sole and white overhead, creating a warm, light-filled space. The boat is arranged to sleep two couples across two cabins—an aft cabin with a double berth at the companionway base and a forward cabin with a custom offset double berth. Between them lies a well-appointed galley with a three-burner gimbaled Shipmate stove, double stainless steel sink, and comprehensive storage; a separate nav station with chart table and lift-top storage; and a main salon with dinette and convertible settees. The single head features a white Formica counter, stainless steel sink, separate shower area, and manual Jabsco toilet. Ten opening portlights and four Bomar hatches provide natural light and ventilation throughout.
A Yanmar 4JH57 diesel engine of 57 horsepower was installed new in 2017 and runs approximately 560 hours as of November 2025. The propulsion system includes a feathering MaxProp reconditioned in 2017, new cutlass bearing and stuffing box from the same year, and a serrated line cutter on the prop shaft. Three stainless steel water tanks provide 150 gallons total capacity; fuel capacity is 75 gallons in a fiberglass tank with Racor filtration. An Allcraft hot water tank serves both 110v and engine heat. The electrical system runs 12v DC with AGM house batteries, a Victron battery combiner, and a Xantrex 40-amp charger; 30-amp shore power is available.
Navigation and sailing systems include dual Garmin GPSmap 4208 chartplotters, an 18-inch Garmin radome, Standard Horizon VHF radio, Raymarine wind and speed instruments, and a Simrad AP22 autopilot. The aluminum mast and Schaefer boom carry a furling mainsail from 2014, a 100% jib and Dacron genoa both from 2017, and a
