The Spindrift 46 is a fiberglass cutter built in 1984, one of only twelve ever constructed. Based on the Kelly-Peterson design and built in New Zealand, this yacht combines robust offshore capability with comfortable cruising accommodations. The hull features a keel-stepped double-spreader mast and overbuilt rigging designed for serious bluewater work. Power comes from a 90-horsepower Lehman diesel engine with approximately 3,240 hours, paired with a BorgWarner transmission. The yacht cruises at 7.5 knots with a maximum speed of 8.5 knots and carries dual 130-gallon fuel tanks and dual 170-gallon water tanks in stainless steel.
The interior layout comprises two cabins and two heads. The forward cabin offers a private stateroom with custom mattress and ensuite head with LectroSan treatment. The main salon features twin facing settees and a folding teak dining table, warmed by a Dickinson diesel heater. The galley is equipped with dual stainless sinks, a new Force 10 three-burner propane stove with oven, and separate refrigeration and freezer systems. An aft cabin with queen berth and private head opens to the cockpit, while a pilot berth along the starboard passageway provides additional sleeping space with engine access.
The sail inventory is comprehensive, including a stack-pack mainsail, 130% working jib with roller furling, 150% genoa, two staysails, cruising spinnaker, storm jib, storm trysail, and anchor sail. Five self-tailing Lewmar winches (three #46 and two #55) manage the rig, along with Harken roller furling and a full canvas enclosure. The yacht carries eight 6-volt golf cart batteries totaling 900 amp-hours, two 55-watt solar panels, a wind generator, and a Freedom 2500 inverter-charger for self-sufficient power.
Navigation and electronics are comprehensive: Furuno 24-mile radar, Garmin GPSMap 220, Raymarine multifunction display with radar and chartplotter, Raymarine wind and speed instruments, Autohelm 5000 autopilot, dual VHF radios, and ham and SSB capability. Ground tackle includes three anchors, 450 feet of new-in-1999 galvanized chain, 850 feet of nylon rode, and a 12-volt electric windlass. The yacht carries a 9-foot Apex inflatable tender with 8-horsepower Johnson outboard, davits and swim ladder, and a six-person offshore liferaft requiring recertification.
