The Trintella 42 is a 42-foot fiberglass sailing yacht built in 1984, powered by a 50-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine. Designed by Ron Holland with interiors by Rene van der Velden, this boat combines traditional Dutch craftsmanship with modern construction techniques. The hull uses sandwich construction with the SCRIMP process and vinylester resin for strength, weight efficiency, and osmosis protection. The rig features a modern, powerful design with a custom mast incorporating triple spreaders angled at 22 degrees, eliminating the need for running backstays, and a self-tacking jib that allows single-handed tacking from the helm.
The deck layout emphasizes both comfort and practical seamanship. An uncluttered teak deck leads to the boat's signature covered guest cockpit with the characteristic Trintella "Doghouse," which provides shelter and security while maintaining sightlines. A separate, ergonomically designed helmsman's cockpit aft offers clear views and places all controls within easy reach. The boat is capable of being handled by a small crew on extended ocean passages.
The interior provides accommodation for up to six people with generous headroom of 1.90 meters throughout. Two layout options are available: one with two large cabins forward and aft, each with en-suite head and separate shower, or one with two bunks in the doghouse allowing the chart table to relocate there. The saloon seats six comfortably and connects to a spacious galley designed for safety in heavy seas. Cedar-lined hanging lockers in each cabin provide natural clothing preservation. A comprehensively equipped navigation station is positioned on the starboard side of the saloon. The heavily insulated engine room is separate and can discretely accommodate optional systems such as generators, water makers, and hydraulics.
Computer-aided design informs the hull and keel, optimizing stability and performance. Aramid composites enhance structural safety characteristics. The interior accommodates a range of upholstery and wood finishes to suit individual preference while maintaining an elegant, understated aesthetic suited to extended cruising.
