This 1985 Hatteras 53 Extended Deckhouse is a fiberglass motor yacht built for serious offshore capability. Twin Detroit diesel engines deliver 870 horsepower. The boat spans 53 feet in length with a 15-foot-10-inch beam, offering the substantial volume and seakeeping qualities Hatteras is known for.
The layout includes three staterooms and three heads, along with a spacious main salon. Upper and lower helm stations provide commanding views and redundant control. The galley is equipped with a full-size refrigerator. A six-foot swim platform with gradual stairs was added during recent work.
Significant structural and cosmetic work has been completed over the past four years. The hull bottom was stripped to original fiberglass and rebuilt using a seven-coat West Systems epoxy process in 2022. Decks were re-cored and resurfaced the same year. The subfloor from the engine rooms aft was removed to bare hull, cleaned thoroughly, and rebuilt with new plywood and fresh bilge coating. New plumbing was installed for toilets, shower drains, and sumps. Helm window frames were powder coated with new glass and stainless hardware. Engine tops received new gaskets and thermostats in 2023. Gunwales were restored by removing railings, grinding and repairing cracks, and reinstalling with new stainless fittings. Propellers were balanced and calibrated. New carpeting, upgraded teak-veneered vanities with quartz countertops, and refreshed helm varnish with an added drop-down television round out the updates.
