The Emerald Lady is a 65-foot Irwin cutter rig ketch built in 1985 with a fiberglass hull. Originally designed as a charter boat, she has been substantially modified and maintained by her current owner since 1998 to enhance both comfort and performance. The yacht is powered by a John Deere diesel engine producing 275 horsepower, with the engine replaced in 2021.
The interior layout was reconfigured to convert the aft two cabins into a spacious owner's cabin with a king-size bed. The yacht contains four cabins total and five heads. Power systems include a larger AGM battery bank, solar panels, and a wind generator to support extended cruising. A bow thruster aids maneuverability in tight anchorages.
The rigging and sail plan have been optimized for shorthanded sailing. The mainsail was replaced in 2021 and features a single-line double reefing system controllable from the cockpit via an electric winch. The furling staysail is equipped with a self-tending aluminum boom. An electric winch handles the furling system. All lines lead to cockpit-mounted electric winches for ease of handling. The mast step was upgraded to stainless steel, and the rigging has been improved throughout.
Deck features include a custom centerboard for improved performance, a permanent fixed swim platform, and a custom fiberglass hardtop Bimini for shade and weather protection.
