1985 Tayana Vancouver 42

The Tayana Vancouver 42 is a fiberglass offshore cruiser designed by Robert Harris, built for blue-water voyaging with a single deep keel carrying 11,800 pounds of ballast. The boat measures 42 feet in length with a 12.5-foot beam and is powered by a Kubota diesel engine producing 50 horsepower. The deck features Kiwigrip non-skid surfaces, stainless steel stanchions and hardware mounted on raised fiberglass pads, and a cutter rig with multiple sail configurations for ease of handling. The standing rigging was replaced in 2018, and chainplates were renewed the same year. New additions include a Harken staysail furler, Forespar whisker pole, and Atkins-Hoyle davits, all installed in 2025.

The interior is finished throughout with varnished teak joinery and offers sleeping berths for six. Forward is a queen-size V-berth with custom mattress and abundant storage. The main salon features a starboard settee, port captain's chairs flanking a table, and a chart station to port. An aft private cabin sleeps two additional crew. Headroom exceeds six feet in most areas. The galley is a U-shaped unit on the starboard side with a three-burner stainless steel stove with oven, two twenty-gallon propane tanks, double stainless sinks with pressure water, and a twelve-volt refrigeration unit. A head with shower compartment is located forward, equipped with a manual head and separate gray water sump.

Mechanical systems have received extensive renewal. The engine was repowered with the marinized Kubota in 2018 and runs fewer than 1,100 hours. The electrical system includes a new Balmar 170-amp alternator and regulator installed in 2024, four Renogy 4D AGM 200-amp batteries also from 2024, and a Magnum Energy 3000-watt inverter. Fresh water and head hoses were replaced in 2025, as was a new sixteen-gallon water heater. A diesel heater and one kilowatt of solar power support extended cruising independence.

Navigation and communication equipment includes a Garmin 800 AIS, Garmin chartplotter with integrated radar, Standard Horizon VHF at the nav station, Garmin autopilot, wind instruments, EPIRB, and Fusion stereo with Bluetooth. Anchor ground tackle consists of a thirty-three-kilogram Rocna anchor, electric Lofrans windlass, 225 feet of three-eighths-inch chain, and 150 feet of three-quarter-inch nylon rode. Sails include a full batten Doyle mainsail with two reef points, a Doyle 140 genoa, and a Doyle 110 yankee added in 2025.
