The 1986 Carver 42 Aft Cabin is built on a proven design centered around a broad 15-foot beam, long 38-foot waterline, and solid fiberglass construction. Twin Crusader 454 V-8 engines produce 340 hp each and drive the yacht at a comfortable 13–14 knots, with a cruising range near 500 nautical miles at trawler speeds. The modified-V hull delivers stability and predictable handling characteristic of the model.
The interior layout maximizes the full beam of the yacht across a generous salon with 6 feet 6 inches of headroom and wrap-around windows. Two staterooms each feature private heads with showers—a forward V-berth guest cabin and an aft owner's suite with a centerline queen berth spanning the beam. The galley is fully equipped with stove, oven, refrigerator/freezer, double sink, and microwave, opening directly to the salon. An enclosed aft deck with hardtop provides outdoor living space.
Recent upgrades include a rebuilt transmission, 1,200 amp-hours of lithium battery capacity paired with a solar array, a new water heater, dual-zone reverse-cycle air conditioning and heating, a 7.5 kW generator, and an electric 12-volt windlass with chain and rope capability. The yacht carries 400 gallons of fuel across two aluminum tanks, 150 gallons of water, and 90 gallons of holding capacity. Shore power is dual 30-amp at 120 volts AC and 12 volts DC.
