1986 Custom Schooner

Mentor is an 85-foot steel schooner built in 1986 to Lloyds A1 survey standards. Her hull design draws from the Royal Navy's sea cadet training brigantine TS Royalist, featuring a round bilge form with four main watertight bulkheads and six watertight doors throughout. A single Volvo diesel engine of 265 horsepower provides auxiliary power.

Originally built by Hoffland Boatbuilders in Fremantle, Western Australia, the yacht was completed in time for charter work during the 1987 America's Cup Challenge. She spent five years in active charter service, including three years operating in the Whitsunday Islands on the Great Barrier Reef.

Below deck, Mentor accommodates seven cabins and two heads, arranged to support extended cruising and charter operations. The interior has been maintained and updated throughout her years of use, with comprehensive technical documentation and service records available for her systems, including refrigeration and mechanical components.

The schooner has been actively maintained by her long-term owner and is offered in sound, continuously looked-after condition.
