The Slocum 43 is a fiberglass cutter designed by Stan Huntingford and built in Taiwan as hull #37. Known for solid blue water cruising capability, she combines comfortable passage-making performance with thoughtful interior design. The teak joinery throughout reflects the craftsmanship characteristic of 1980s Taiwanese construction, creating a spacious and well-organized layout below decks.
Power comes from a Perkins 4-108 diesel rebuilt in 2013 with approximately 800 hours since. She cruises at 6.2 knots and reaches a maximum speed of 8 knots. Fuel capacity totals 120 gallons in new fiberglass tanks installed in 2023. A 100-amp high-output alternator and 2000-watt inverter support the 12-volt DC and 120-volt AC systems. Fresh water storage comprises two 75-gallon stainless steel tanks.
The sailing rig features a fully battened mainsail with Schaefer boom furler added in 2001. A hard dodger and screened cockpit enclosure with cushions protect the deck spaces. Ground tackle includes dual bow anchors—a 60-pound Delta and 45-pound CQR—along with a 30-pound Danforth, all served by a 12-volt Maxwell electric windlass.
Systems and cruising equipment reflect years of practical use. Renewable power comes from 520 watts of solar panels and a D400 wind generator. A 12-volt water maker, Force 10 three-burner galley stove, and Ableir Barbour refrigeration support extended passages. Navigation includes Raymarine plotters with Navionics, Garmin GPS, Furuno radar, and an Icom VHF. Bottom paint was refreshed in 2024, and new through-hulls with bronze ball valves were installed in 2023.
