The Saturna 33 is a 1987 pilot house cruiser designed by William Garden as an all-weather coastal and ocean voyager. Built by Wiggers Custom Yachts in Canada, the boat features the designer's signature double-ended stern and high flared sheerline—elements that shed water from the bow and prevent wave slap on the transom in following seas. The fiberglass hull is cored with foam insulation from four inches below the sheerline to the waterline, likely Airex PVC foam, which resists water absorption and rot. The underwater profile comprises a long fin keel and skeg-protected rudder.
The interior layout suits a couple or single-hander well. The raised pilot house provides views through large windows and accommodates four in the salon. Below, the forward cabin holds a V-berth, while the galley sits down with a three-burner stove, generous sink, and large refrigerator-freezer combination. Diesel forced-air heating warms the cabin. Two heads serve the boat. Both inside and outside steering stations allow operation from the pilot house during challenging weather or motoring, or from the cockpit under sail.
The cockpit comfortably seats two adults and can snug four. Rigging allows the main and jib to be raised and lowered from the cockpit. A Universal or Westerbeke 30 hp diesel engine provides auxiliary power at a cruising speed of six knots. The boat requires no immediate yard work and is ready to sail.
