1987 Slocum 43

This 1987 Slocum 43 is a fiberglass cruising sailboat built for serious offshore passage-making. At 43 feet with a 12.75-foot beam, the hull combines seaworthiness with spacious accommodations. The boat was originally commissioned in Cleveland and spent years in the fresh water of the Great Lakes before moving to coastal cruising along the Atlantic and into the Bahamas.

The yacht carries a full suite of sails including an in-mast furling mainsail, 150 genoa, asymmetrical spinnaker, and staysail, supported by Barrient self-tailing winches across multiple stations. A Perkins 4-108 diesel engine rated at 50 horsepower provides auxiliary power, with a 3-blade bronze propeller and recent service on the rear main seal and transmission seals. The boat features a retractable bow thruster with cockpit control for maneuvering in tight spaces.

Accommodation includes a full galley with refrigeration, three-burner propane range with oven, dual sinks with hot and cold running water, and ample storage. The head features a VacuFlush system with a separate discharge pump, shower/tub, and hot and cold water. An LG smart TV and Kenwood stereo system with full boat speakers provide comfort below decks.

Systems are thoroughly equipped for extended cruising: 150 gallons each of fuel and water across dual tanks, a 440-watt solar array with MPPT controller, six 105-amp AGM house batteries, a 2000-watt inverter with 100-amp charger, and a portable generator. Electronics include Garmin autopilot, radar, chartplotter, AIS, and tri-data instruments, along with SSB and VHF radios. The ground tackle setup includes a Maxwell windlass, Rocna 25-kilo primary anchor with 225 feet of chain, spare Mantus 65-pound anchor, and bridle. Additional equipment comprises a 10-foot aluminum dinghy with 2022 Mercury outboard and davit system, life raft, water maker, wind vane, and full canvas including dodger, bimini, and cockpit enclosure.
