1987 West Bay James Beal 31 Hardtop Lobster Boat

This 1987 West Bay James Beal 31 is a hardtop lobster boat built on a proven downeast hull. Powered by a Cummins 225 hp diesel engine with approximately 300 hours, the boat combines working-boat durability with recent systems upgrades and comfort improvements.

The 2022 refit rebuilt core systems and equipment throughout. The engine received new transmission and hydraulic steering. The drivetrain includes a new drive shaft, cutlass bearing, and dripless seal. Fresh water capacity was expanded, and a swim platform with shower was added. The hull and interior received complete repainting, and new portlights and fore hatch with screens were installed.

The accommodations include a cabin and wheelhouse with new lighting, fresh air fans, and ventilation via mushroom vents. The cabin features a vee berth with new cushions, an engine box cushion, and updated fabrics. The galley is equipped with a microwave, a 12V/120V refrigerator-freezer with auto switch, and an inverter-charger system. One head serves the interior spaces.

Safety and utility systems are current: depth sounder, windshield wipers, electric bilge pump alongside a manual Gussler 400, new Y-valve, and Shurflo washdown pump. The boat carries a Revere Coastal 4-man liferaft and EPIRB. Electronics include updated US East Coast and Bahama charts. A propane barbecue is mounted to the stern deck, and the hardtop features beige canvas panels with stainless steel frame, plus canvas covers for the windshield and fore hatch.
