The 1988 Bavaria 42 Caribic is a fiberglass cruising yacht built to a well-established design. At just over 40 feet long with a beam of 13 feet, she offers a solid platform for extended voyaging. Power comes from a Yanmar 4JH2-HTE diesel engine rated at 75 horsepower, installed in 2005 and running approximately 2,500 hours with no oil consumption and regular maintenance.
The interior layout provides three cabins and two heads, accommodating up to eight people comfortably for cruising or extended stays. A double berth occupies the forepeak, with two guest cabins aft. The galley is fully equipped with cookware included, and there is diesel heating plus hot water on demand from the engine. Recent updates to the interior include new kitchen and bathroom sinks, LED indirect lighting, and five new windows installed in 2020.
The electrical and energy systems have been substantially upgraded. A 400-ampere-hour lithium battery bank was installed in 2023, paired with Victron management and charging systems. Solar generation comes from six panels totaling 550 watts, managed by Victron MPPT controllers. An inverter rated at 2000/3000 watts supports onboard power needs. Navigation electronics are comprehensive: Garmin plotter, radar, autopilot, and wind instrumentation all date to 2023, supplemented by Raymarine depth sounder, log, interior plotter, and VHF radio.
The sail inventory is complete and varied: a new mainsail from 2014, new and used foresails, a reefing genoa, and a storm trysail. Deck equipment includes a 28-kilogram Delta anchor with 60 meters of chain, a 2.5-meter tender with Honda outboard motor, eight fenders, and a stern shower. A Bimini provides weather protection on deck.
