1988 Cape George 38

This 1988 Cape George 38 is a fiberglass cutter-rigged sailing yacht built by Cecil Lange at Cape George Marine Works in Port Townsend. The boat is 38 feet long with an 11-foot-7-inch beam and is powered by a 72-horsepower Mercedes-Benz diesel engine. The design reflects Cape George's reputation for blue-water capable cruising sailboats based on William Atkin's classic hull forms.

The deck layout offers wide side decks for easy movement fore and aft, a flat-roofed cabin house, and a spacious cockpit with cushions and a large bimini top with side panels. The brightwork on the bulwarks has been recently refinished. Below deck, accommodations are arranged around a central galley to starboard just aft of the companionway, fitted with a Force 10 LPG stove and oven, double stainless-steel sink with hot and cold pressure water, and extensive cabinetry. A large horizontal refrigerator serves as a chart table on the port side, with a quarter berth aft of it. The salon forward includes a single settee to port and a large L-shaped dinette to starboard with a folding table, plus a Newport heater and additional storage. A roomy head with shower sits to starboard, and a spacious V-berth with storage occupies the forward cabin.

The boat underwent a major refit between 2012 and 2013, which included new FRP decks, standing rigging, mast, boom, bowsprit, bronze through-hulls, LED navigation and interior lighting, and a new mainsail. The Mercedes-Benz diesel was rebuilt in 2003. The rig has been repainted white and is ready to step. This boat was originally built as Cecil Lange's personal showroom model and has been consistently maintained throughout its ownership history.
