This 1988 steel ketch tallship measures 103 feet 9 inches overall with a 21-foot beam. Built by Lahaina Welding Co. in Maui, she combines the sailing rig of a 19th-century trading vessel with a contemporary triple-keel design that provides excellent maneuverability in shallow waters. Twin Cummins diesel engines produce 602 horsepower, delivering a cruising speed of 8 knots and a maximum speed of 13 knots.
A comprehensive restoration completed in Port Townsend involved extensive professional work across all systems. The hull received significant renewal, with 40 percent of the below-waterline section and 20 percent above replaced. New main mast and topmasts were installed, spars were refinished with multiple coats of paint, and all standing and running rigging was renewed or refurbished with three-strand polyester from Marlow Ropes. The steering system features a new hydraulic ram and autopilot, while shaft work included new shafts and bearing systems.
Engine room and mechanical systems were substantially upgraded, including new transmissions, drive line, and supporting systems. A new hydraulic anchor winch with fresh chain, rebuilt generator, new fuel and water tanks, and new fire suppression systems were installed. The electrical system was completely replaced with modern AC and DC equipment and new battery banks.
Navigation systems, galley appliances, and all interior systems are new throughout. The boat operates under a Certificate of Inspection allowing 42 passengers and has been actively used for charters, educational programs, and sail training.
