1988 Nonsuch 33

The Nonsuch 33 is a classic cruising yacht built by Hinterhoeller Yachts, known for their solid construction and thoughtful design. This 1988 example features the distinctive unstayed cat rig with wishbone boom that defines the model—a setup that simplifies sail handling and makes short-handed sailing straightforward. With her 12.42-foot beam, she delivers surprising interior volume for her length. The yacht is powered by a 35-horsepower Universal diesel engine with 2,230 hours, paired with a Hurth transmission and folding propeller.

The accommodation includes a private forward double berth with closet and drawers, a quarter berth, and a U-shaped settee convertible to a double. The cabin offers 6 feet 6 inches of headroom and benefits from large ports and hatches that flood the interior with natural light. The galley features a three-burner Dickinson stove with oven, stainless sink, and 12-volt refrigeration. The head has an electric Raritan toilet, separate shower, and stainless vanity sink. Tankage includes 35 gallons of fuel, 80 gallons of fresh water, and 30 gallons of waste capacity.

A comprehensive refit beginning in 2021 transformed the yacht's systems and finish. The hull and topsides received three coats of Awlcraft 2000 Flag Blue with clearcoat, while decks were refinished in Stark White with Kiwigrip non-slip. All deck hardware was removed and re-bedded. Exterior teak was sanded and refinished with ten coats of Epiphanes varnish. Five hatches and eight portlights were restored and re-glazed by Atkins & Hoyle.

The modernized systems include a B&G Vulcan 9 multifunction display on an NMEA 2000 network, B&G wind and speed/depth transducers, a Standard Horizon VHF with GPS and AIS receive, and an Autohelm 3000 autopilot. A Lewmar Pro 1000 windlass with deck and cockpit switches handles the Rocna Vulcan 20 anchor and 150 feet of galvanized chain plus nylon rode. Navigation and electrical systems, winches, rigging, canvas, and all interior finishes—galley, head, cabin soft goods, and lighting—were comprehensively updated. The yacht is stored on a custom steel cradle with winter cover.
