The Chief is a 1989 Apache 41, a high-performance offshore yacht built on a fiberglass hull with an 8-foot beam. Twin 580 cubic inch Chevy Big Blocks deliver over 1,000 horsepower each through Mercury 3A SSM drives and Borg Warner transmissions. Both engines are equipped with Whipple superchargers and new carburetors installed in 2022. With the starboard engine at 6 hours and the port engine at 50 hours following a top-end refresh by Rogers Speed Shop, the twin setup achieves a cruise speed of 65 mph and a top speed of 92 mph in a configuration designed for stability and performance in heavy water.
The boat underwent a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic refit from 2022 to 2024. The cockpit received new upholstery, linings, and custom marine flooring, while new custom aluminum engine hatches and an integrated aluminum swim platform were added. The Mercury drives were rebuilt in 2023. The cabin maintains its original layout and is described as exceptionally clean and dry. The hull carries the classic Apache staggered graphic and is in above-average condition.
Electronics include a Garmin GPS Echo Map HD, ICOM IC 304 VHF with DSC, and Uniden digital depth finder, along with updated performance gauges and throttles. A 1994 Steel Eagle triple-axle custom trailer is included.
