1989 Catalina 42

This 1989 Catalina 42 is a three-cabin wing-keel design that exemplifies the durability and balance of one of sailing's most respected hull forms. The boat accommodates couples and families equally well, with modest draft suited to shallow-water cruising in the Chesapeake Bay, Intracoastal Waterway, and Florida. A 44-horsepower Yanmar diesel powers the yacht, with a 100-amp Balmar alternator for charging.

The interior features teak and holly sole throughout, with three cabins: two aft staterooms sleeping two each, a forward pullman berth, and a forward master head plus guest head. The galley sits to starboard and includes a three-burner Princess propane stove with oven, double sink, top-loading fridge and freezer, and microwave. The starboard nav station and port-side hanging locker complete the layout. A 120V/12V electrical system with shore power supports 110-volt outlets throughout, upgraded AC and DC distribution panels with digital displays, and three 4-D house batteries plus a dedicated start battery.

The rig carries a mainsail replaced in 2022 by Quantum Sails with full-batten construction and Dutchman reefing, a 135-percent genoa, cruising spinnaker with pole, and storm sail on removable inner stay. Two Lewmar 52 self-tailing jib winches and two Lewmar 40 main-sheet winches handle the sail plan. Running rigging was replaced, and new masthead Raymarine electronics measure wind direction and speed. Navigation includes GPS, depth sounder, knot meter, VHF radio, and Autohelm 6000 autopilot.

Recent maintenance includes a new mainsail cover and dodger from 2022, new exhaust elbow mixer and hose, and hull bottom paint applied in 2023. Diesel tanks were cleaned, filtered, and polished. An auxiliary 40-gallon bladder tank extends cruising range. Kato Marine davits, seawater anchor-locker washdown, and stainless steel wheel complete the deck layout.
