1989 Freedom 38 Sloop

This 1989 Freedom 38 is a well-maintained fiberglass sloop with a dark blue hull, white boottop, and light gray decks. The boat features a balsa-cored hull and deck, fin keel with spade rudder, and is powered by a single Yanmar 3GM30F 27 hp diesel engine with approximately 2,904 hours. A carbon fiber mast and Selden self-tacking jib system support modern sail handling. The boat has undergone substantial refitting since 2020, including new seacocks, thru-hull fittings, a 12V Lewmar windlass, Sunbrella dodger and bimini, and refinished cockpit cushions.

Below decks, the interior offers warm, functional accommodations with teak cabinetry throughout and a teak and holly cabin sole. The layout includes a vee berth forward with custom 5-inch mattress, a private aft cabin beneath the cockpit with double berth, a galley to port with three-burner stove and oven, and an enclosed head with Jabsco manual toilet and shower. A navigation station to starboard provides additional settee seating and hanging locker space. Headliners and cabin sole trim were replaced in 2020, along with new dinette and settee cushions.

The electrical system runs 12V DC and 125V AC power, supported by recent battery upgrades completed in 2025—a Quicksilver AGM start battery and three house batteries. A 2022 Balmar alternator with voltage regulator, 2020 Mastervolt inverter-charger, and solar panel with Victron charge controller provide charging redundancy. A 2020 Kuuma water heater and Sea Frost refrigeration support cruising comfort.

Electronics include 2020 Raymarine VHF, 12-inch hybrid GPS, Quantum Doppler Radar, autopilot, and depthsounder. The boat carries two anchors—a 44 lb Rocna and Fortress FX-23—plus a 9-foot Mercury dinghy with 3.5 hp outboard. Recent engine upgrades include new shaft, propeller, exhaust system, and aft mounts, all completed in 2020.
