The Nonsuch 30 Ultra is a 1989 fiberglass sailing yacht built around ease of handling and solid construction. Her free-standing mast paired with a wishbone boom makes single- and double-handed sailing straightforward. A deep fin keel provides stability and capable upwind performance. She displaces 11,500 pounds and draws 5 feet, with a beam of just under 12 feet. Power comes from a 30-horsepower Universal diesel engine with 1,904 hours; the engine has seen recent attention including new throttle and shift cables in 2019, a replaced propeller shaft in 2018, and a dripless shaft seal installed the same year. The V-drive gearbox is a Hurth HBW 150-2RV. She carries a 3-blade bronze propeller and a spare 2-blade bronze propeller.
The interior layout centers on comfort and practicality. The main cabin features a convertible dinette that sleeps two and a single berth to port with storage beneath. The forward cabin holds a double berth, hanging locker, vanity with mirror, and drawers. The head includes a shower stall with teak seat, mirror, vanity, stainless steel sink, and chrome faucet. Large cushions in the main cabin were re-upholstered in 2022. The galley is well-equipped with stainless steel sink, pressurized hot and cold water from custom-made stainless tanks totaling 85 gallons installed in 2019, and a foot-controlled backup pump. Abundant cabinet and drawer storage throughout. Seven opening ports and four overhead hatches with screens provide ventilation. The yacht sleeps five comfortably.
Systems are modern and well-maintained. Three AGM 12-volt batteries installed in 2018 charge within an hour and fifteen minutes at engine idle. A Xantrex 20-amp shore charger and an intelligent battery charger manage power, while a 30-watt solar panel with controller supplements charging. The 30-gallon aluminum fuel tank feeds the engine; a 40-gallon holding tank serves the fresh-water flush toilet. An Excel propane water heater was installed in 2024; the Force 10 stove and oven run on propane from a dual-tank locker. Seafrost refrigeration was added to the icebox in 2018. Navigation and safety equipment include a Raymarine chartplotter, GPS, AIS receiver, wind instruments, ST-4002 autopilot, Furuno radar with dome, and depth and speed meters. All winches and the windlass are serviced annually. The Rocna Vulcan anchor on the bow roller connects via a 2022-installed Mantus swivel to 90 feet of G4 chain and 200 feet of 8-ply rode; two backup anchors store below. A Lewmar V1 electric windlass with wireless remote handles ground tackle. An 8-foot North Atlantic aluminum RIB inflatable with a serviced 2.3-horsepower Honda outboard is included.
