1990 Corsair F-27

The 1990 Corsair F-27 is a 27-foot trailable catamaran built in fiberglass with a distinctive narrow-beam design and retractable daggerboard. Powered by a single 8-horsepower Yamaha engine, it combines shallow draft—drawing just 14 inches—with responsive sailing performance. The boat's construction uses PVC foam core, double bias glass fabric, Kevlar, S-glass, and carbon fiber, resulting in a lightweight hull that is fully unsinkable and designed for extended cruising.

The three-cabin layout provides comfortable accommodation with spacious deck areas and near-level sailing characteristics suited to family use. Control lines for the fractional rig lead aft to the cockpit for convenient single-handed operation. The boat features a roller furling boom and jiffy reefing as standard, while the deep retractable daggerboard delivers excellent upwind performance comparable to much larger monohulls.

The shallow draft and lightweight construction make the F-27 highly trailable with minimal towing weight. Rigging and launching can be completed single-handed in under 30 minutes, with the retractable daggerboard unfolding in about a minute once afloat. The design allows access to shallow anchorages and remote cruising grounds while reducing the typical costs of dock fees and maintenance associated with conventional keelboats.
