1990 Mystic 60

The Mystic 60 is a German Frers design built by Ta Shing in 1987, conceived as an ocean cruiser combining seaworthy hull design with spirited performance and ease of handling for small crews. This example, hull number 7, was commissioned by noted One Ton racer Tony Vernon and features a performance-enhanced specification with a deeper bulb keel, taller rig, and high-performance laminate hull. The boat has completed two circumnavigations and extensive northern cruising, demonstrating proven capability in all waters.

The layout comprises four cabins and three heads arranged around a saloon designed by Petter Yarn with careful attention to comfortable cruising life. The yacht is powered by a Perkins 6.3544M diesel engine paired with a 4-blade feathering Max Prop and equipped with a Side Power bow thruster, twin battery chargers, and an inverter. Extensive navigation and autopilot systems include B&G Zeus chart plotters, Triton 2 displays, V70 DSC VHF radio, and a Garmin UHD2 stand-alone plotter recently upgraded in 2025.

A comprehensive refit completed in 2013–14 included full replacement of the teak deck in quarter-sawn 12mm Burma teak, topsides repainted in Awlgrip two-pack blue, complete rod rigging renewal, full underwater epoxy coating, and extensive electrical and plumbing system overhaul. The standing rigging is stainless steel, and sail handling is managed by Andersen electric winches for sheets and halyards with a Lewmar electric windlass. Additional systems include reverse cycle air conditioning and heating, a Force 10 galley range, Kohler marine generator, and a 2024 hard-transom inflatable dinghy with Simpson Lawrence stainless steel davits. The hull is fiberglass, built to American Bureau of Shipping 1-A Plus with approved stability documentation.
