The 1990 Viking 38 Convertible is a fiberglass sportfisher built around a modified-V hull with cored sides and solid fiberglass bottom. Twin Detroit Diesel 6-71 engines deliver 970 horsepower. The hull design offers more than 14 feet of beam, giving the boat substantial stability and interior volume for its size. Cruising speed reaches 22 knots, with a maximum speed of 25 knots.
The interior combines teak paneling and upscale fabrics across a two-cabin, one-head layout. Forward is the master stateroom, followed by a spacious salon with a dinette, mid-galley, and a double-entry head. The salon feels notably roomy for a 38-footer. The cockpit spans over 100 square feet and includes in-deck fish boxes, a transom door, and molded tackle centers. Above, the flybridge offers generous seating under a hardtop with full enclosure curtains.
Navigation and electronics include a Raytheon Pathfinder BL70 radar, Furuno chartplotter, Raymarine C120 plotter, Datamarine depthsounder, Simrad AP11 autopilot, and Vespermarine AIS. Additional features are an Onan genset, bow pulpit, anchor windlass, trim tabs, saltwater washdown, recessed rod holders, and Cruisair HVAC. Power systems include 120/240-volt shorepower capability with 50-amp service and a PosiCharge battery charger.
Recent work completed between 2024 and 2026 includes turbocharger overhaul, fuel line and filter replacement, generator engine replacement, and starter replacement.
