This 1991 Catalina 36 represents one of the most successful cruising sailboats ever built. The class logged nearly 2,000 hulls and earned recognition for thoughtful design and solid construction. The boat offers substantial accommodation both on deck and below, combined with responsive handling that works well for cruising, daysailing, or racing—equally manageable short-handed or with a full crew.
This example is a Mk 1.5 with the step-through transom of the later Mk II. The boat has been sailed regularly but never cruised, with complete maintenance records dating to 2002. The 36-foot fiberglass hull is powered by a 30-horsepower Universal diesel engine, with a cruising speed of 7 knots and a top speed of 7.5 knots.
Recent work includes new 110% jib and new rigging in 2025, new canvas and dodger in 2022, new standing rigging in 2020 when the mast was unstepped and rewired, and new lifelines in 2021. The hull has been regularly hauled and bottom-painted, with the most recent painting in 2024. Brightwork was renewed in 2024 along with a complete hull buff and wax. Engine servicing is current as of June 2025. Over the past six years, the boat has received approximately $35,000 in documented maintenance and upgrades.
