The Standfast 56 is a German Frers-designed performance cruiser built in 1991 by Standfast Yachts in the Netherlands. At 55 feet in length with a 16-foot beam, this fiberglass yacht displaces 24 tons and combines solid cruising capability with responsive handling. A 145-horsepower Volvo Penta diesel engine with just 1,206 hours delivers a cruising speed of 8 knots and a maximum of 9 knots, with a range of 1,000 nautical miles. The yacht carries 500 liters of fuel and 1,000 liters of water.
The interior is arranged across four cabins and two heads. The owner's aft cabin includes an ensuite with shower, toilet, and basin. The saloon features a large dining area to port and lounge seating to starboard. Forward are a V-berth cabin and two twin-bunk cabins, both accessed from a shared head. Hydraulic systems and electric winches throughout make sail handling straightforward for a boat of this size.
A comprehensive refit in 2016 included hull and deck repainting, a new 5-kilowatt generator, fresh start batteries, and updated service batteries. The engine underwent a full rebuild in 2007, with shaft seal replacement in 2018 and new engine controls in the same year. The sail wardrobe is young, with a 2019 mainsail from Lion Sails, 2018 genoa, and recent spinnaker and gennaker. Navigation electronics include Raymarine radar, dual GPS plotters, B&G instruments, and autopilot. Deck equipment comprises teak side decks, electric and manual Barient winches, a Proctor mast with hydraulic tuning, and full sloop-cutter rigging with hydraulically adjustable cutter-stay and backstay.
