The Manta Clipper is a 34-foot performance sailing yacht designed by Garry Hoyt and built by Tillotson-Pearson in Rhode Island. Known for its solid vinylester construction and distinctive forward helm, the boat features a planing hull with a unique roller-reefing rig and bipod mast system that simplify handling and favor short-handed sailing. The design prioritizes speed without sacrificing stability or safety, with a stiff ride and responsive performance characteristics.
The boat accommodates cruising with a spacious v-berth forward, twin outboard berths with inboard seating, and full amenities including a wet head with fresh water vacuflush toilet, 53-gallon fresh water tank, and 15-gallon holding tank. The galley offers substantial storage, a large icebox, and an Origo non-pressurized stove. The expansive cockpit seats twelve and is sheltered by fore and aft arches, with a 4-by-4-foot swim platform for easy boarding and dinghy handling.
Power comes from a Yammer 160-horsepower diesel inboard with fuel capacity of 53 gallons across port and starboard tanks. The engine features a stainless steel propeller shaft with bronze three-blade fixed propeller, PYI seal, and Morse controls. Custom engine access hatches provide excellent maintenance access to the engine and plumbing systems.
The rig comprises bipod carbon fiber masts, aluminum boom, and sails including roller-furling jib and mainsail both recently reconditioned with new telltails, a new Dacron Genoa, and roller-furling code zero spinnaker. Additional equipment includes dual anchor systems with winch, two self-tailing cabin-top winches, Harken self-tacking jib sheet traveler, full lifelines with gates, Garmin GPS with depth and speed, Icom VHF, wheel autopilot, and comprehensive safety gear including life raft systems and fire extinguishers.
