The 1992 Island Packet 38 is a full-keel fiberglass cruising sailboat built for extended passagemaking and coastal exploration. At 38 feet on deck with a 12.5-foot beam and five-foot draft, she combines traditional design with a spacious, practical interior. A Yanmar 4JH2E 50-horsepower diesel engine powers the boat, paired with a Vetus bow thruster for easier maneuvering.
The interior includes two cabins, two heads with showers, and accommodations designed around long-term cruising. The forward head has been converted to an Air Head composting system. Electrical systems are robust, featuring 2 × 300-watt solar panels, a 400-watt wind generator, and a 5-kilowatt Northern Lights diesel generator, supported by dual 2000-watt inverters wired separately for redundancy. A 12-inch Garmin chart plotter, Garmin radar, Simrad autopilot, and Icom radio outfit the navigation station.
Significant recent work includes a new mainsail and sail track from Mack Sails (2026), standing rigging replaced in 2020, and the boom, gooseneck, and in-boom reefing system completely refurbished in 2024. A new windlass was installed in 2023, and chainplates were replaced in 2016. Portlight glass was renewed in 2026. The boat carries 100 meters of new galvanized anchor chain and fresh water and fuel capacities of 160 and 57 gallons respectively. Additional amenities include a Fusion Bluetooth stereo, smart television, and dual Lewmar electric winches.
