This 1993 Nelson Marek 43 was built by Carroll Marine and is one of only nine hulls produced. The boat was designed to the IMS Rules of the early 1990s and is one of two examples fitted with wheel steering. The fiberglass hull sits on a 12.5-foot beam, powered by a 45-horsepower Volvo diesel with Saildrive and folding propeller.
The boat has been substantially upgraded since 2019. The deck and hull were re-cored, and a new Nelson Marek lead keel (6,647 lbs) was installed. The hull received fresh black paint and VC-17 bottom protection. A complete BMG Electronics suite from 2018 includes a Zeus 7 GPS chart plotter, H5000 autopilot, Precision 9 electronic compass, and HV instruments for depth, speed, and wind. Standard Horizon Explorer VHF with DSC and a Clarion stereo system complete the electronics package.
The sail inventory is extensive, with newer competition-ready sails from 2016 by Sail Technologies and North: a bi-radial carbon main, carbon jib, carbon blade, and a symmetrical spinnaker. Older sails from 2003 are also aboard for delivery and practice. New clutches and running rigging have been installed throughout. Additional equipment includes a dual-burner alcohol stove, two cabin coolers, and a manual pump-out head. The boat has run fresh water since new and operates on shore power.
