The Tayana 48 is a Bob Perry design built for serious offshore cruising without sacrificing comfort. This fiberglass hull measures 48 feet with a 14.5-foot beam and is powered by an 88-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine. Recent upgrades include new standing rigging and chainplates installed in 2020, along with a new mainsail furler motor in 2024, preparing the boat for extended passagemaking.
Below, the layout centers on a large salon with a dinette to port featuring a teak table, and a navigation station with office space to starboard. The galley sits aft to port and is well-configured for offshore cooking. Forward accommodations include a spacious V-berth with upgraded cushions and storage, plus a third cabin with adjustable bunks. Two heads each feature separate showers, one with a teak seat. The owner's cabin aft has a centerline queen berth, opening ports, vanity, flat-screen television, and a private head with shower. A 12-volt refrigerator-freezer (installed 2024), Force 10 three-burner propane stove with oven, microwave, and pressurized hot and cold water complete the galley.
On deck, the design emphasizes safety and comfort with a large center cockpit, wide weather decks, and teak steps at the reverse transom. An electric mainsail furler with a 2016 Evolution mainsail, 130 percent genoa, white dodger and bimini from 2016, and cockpit side curtains and sun screens provide sail and weather control. Six Lewmar winches and two genoa winches work the rig, which sits atop a Sparcraft mast with a 2017 Schafer 3100 roller furler.
The electrical system includes six Trojan 6-volt house batteries and two engine start batteries installed in 2025, a Xantrex Prosine 3000 inverter-charger, Balmar 75-amp alternator with regulator, two solar panels on a custom arch, and a rebuilt 5-kilowatt Northern Lights generator with approximately 200 service hours since rebuild. Navigation electronics comprise Garmin radar and plotter, AIS receiver, autopilot with two control heads, and dual handheld VHF radios. A Maxwell vertical 2200 electric windlass with 82-pound Mantus anchor and 150 feet of chain, MarineAir reverse-cycle air and heating, a 5-gallon hot water heater, three electric bilge pumps, and an 11-foot-six-inch inflatable dinghy with 15-horsepower Tohatsu outboard complete the equipment package.
