The 1996 Catalina 36 MkII is a moderate-displacement cruising sailboat built on a proven design known for its seakindly performance and ease of handling. The fiberglass hull is hand-laminated solid construction with a lead keel fitted with integrally cast stainless steel bolts. The mast steps through the deck to the keel, supported by inline spreaders and fore and aft lower shrouds. Anodized spars and stainless steel deck hardware reduce maintenance and extend the sailing season.
The interior centers on a spacious main cabin with two private sleeping cabins and one head. The galley features a U-shaped layout with composite countertops, sinks positioned near the centerline for proper drainage under way, a large refrigerated ice box, dry food storage, and a gimballed stainless steel LPG stove with oven. The main cabin includes a dinette or traditional table arrangement, with a game table to starboard that converts to a settee or berth using provided cushions. An entertainment center cabinet is fitted for stereo and television. Interior teak throughout receives multiple coats of varnish.
The boat runs a Universal 35 diesel engine producing 30 hp, delivering a cruising speed of approximately 5 knots. Engine access is straightforward, with the one-piece insulated enclosure easily removed. The mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems have been re-engineered for dependability and accessibility.
Recent upgrades include standing rigging, GPS plotter, AGM batteries, and three solar panels. Additional equipment includes a dodger, bimini with connector, cockpit cushions, davits with outboard lift for a dinghy, and stack pack with lazy jacks. Service records are available from 2011 to the present.
