The 1996 Nauticat 42 is a Finnish-built pilothouse cruising yacht combining traditional motorsailer practicality with bluewater sailing capability. Her fiberglass hull and modern systems make her suited to extended cruising in varied conditions. Navy blue topsides and teak laid side decks give the exterior a traditional finish. Key structural features include a 1.95-meter draft lead ballast fin keel with skeg-supported rudder, providing stability and directional control.
The three-cabin, two-head interior layout accommodates up to seven berths including an occasional saloon settee. The raised pilothouse offers upper and lower helm stations with steering and engine controls, allowing comfortable navigation and maneuvering from inside or on deck. A galley with twin fridges and an LCD TV in the saloon support comfortable living aboard. Fuel and water capacity totals approximately 700 liters, with a blackwater holding tank installed.
Power comes from a 110-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine with shaft drive and a three-bladed MaxProp feathering propeller, complemented by a Vetus bowthruster for close-quarters handling. Navigation equipment includes a Raymarine-based package with i70s multi-repeater, Vesper Marine WatchMate XB-8000 Class B AIS transceiver, radar, and autopilot. Recently replaced Mastervolt AGM batteries with a TBS 60-amp charger support systems cruising.
The sail plan features recently replaced standing and running rigging, a Selden in-mast furling system, furling genoa, Lewmar winch package, and new Elvstrom mainsail and genoa. Recent work also includes epoxy treatment of underwater hull sections and a tender. This yacht is equipped for extended independent cruising and has been maintained throughout her life.
