This 1998 Cabo 31 Express is built on a proven sportfishing platform with twin Caterpillar C3126 diesel engines delivering 700 horsepower combined. The boat features a solid fiberglass hull with a 12-foot-5-inch beam, incorporating Baltek end-grain balsa coring and a structural module designed to eliminate torsional flex. The hull design combines an 18.5-degree transom deadrise with wide reversed chines for roll stability while maintaining a deep forefoot and 46-degree bow deadrise for manageable head-sea performance.
The interior accommodates overnight cruising with a cabin featuring teak and holly sole, recessed lighting, and Corian counters. The galley includes an electric stove, microwave oven, and refrigerator-freezer combination. The head has a shower and well-lit vanity. Topside, the boat carries the working features of a dedicated fishing platform: dual fish boxes, cockpit washdowns, tackle and bait prep center, and rod storage throughout.
The engines were upgraded to 3126s in 2002 and currently show approximately 800 hours. The boat has undergone several focused updates in recent years including replacement of the headliner, Dometic air conditioning system, refrigerator, window seals and portlights, compass, and navigation electronics. A Northern Lights generator has logged 477 hours. Recent mechanical work includes heat exchanger cleaning, oil cooler replacement, and shaft seal service. A custom tower and hardtop have been installed. Equipment aboard includes a Simrad navigation unit, Icom VHF radio, Shakespeare antennas, Lewmar stainless steel anchor with 30 feet of chain, hot water heater, and single-burner cooktop, plus spare freshwater and macerator pumps.
