1998 DeFever 44 Sundeck Trawler

The 1998 DeFever 44 Sundeck is a fiberglass trawler built for extended cruising. Twin Perkins Sabre 135 hp diesel engines deliver economical range, cruising at 7 knots with a top speed of 11 knots. A bow thruster aids maneuverability. The upper helm is sheltered under a custom fiberglass hard top, and the air draft can be reduced to under 19 feet, making this boat suitable for inland waterway systems like the Americas Great Loop.

Two staterooms and two heads provide accommodation for cruising couples or small groups. The interior is designed for comfortable extended voyages, while the 44-foot hull and 14.92-foot beam offer stability and a sense of space. Onboard systems include a 12.6 kw Westerbeke generator, a 2500-watt inverter/charger, and six solar panels for independent cruising capability.

The boat's defining feature is its expansive aft sundeck, which opens to wide walk-around side decks running port and starboard—ideal for secure line handling while docking. The sundeck itself is fitted with a small Magma barbecue, a permanently mounted heavy table, six folding teak chairs with cushions, drop-down sun shades on three sides, and a transom gate with stainless steel boarding and swim ladder. Custom boarding ladders on each side complete the access points.

The hull and decking are non-skid; fresh water wash-down capability is included. Twin boarding gates and a range of customized details throughout signal thoughtful maintenance and upgrade work.
