1998 Hinckley Sou'wester 52

The 1998 Hinckley Sou'wester 52 is a stoway cutter-rigged sloop with a composite hull of Kevlar and E-glass skins with balsa core, built using SCRIMP technology with vinylester resin. Powered by an 88-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine, the yacht features a keel-centerboard configuration with an external lead keel and balanced fiberglass spade rudder. The deck is composite construction with molded-in nonskid, dressed with varnished teak toe rails, handrails, and trim. A custom carbon-fiber in-mast furling mast with internal halyards and extensive Navtec rod rigging support a complete sail plan including a main with soft furling, two genoas, a forestaysail, and a gennaker.

Below decks, the yacht provides accommodations for six across two staterooms and two heads. The interior is finished in satin-varnished cherry with white overhead and a teak-and-holly sole. The master stateroom forward includes a centerline double berth and sole access to the forward head; the guest stateroom aft accommodates a double berth with private access to the aft head. The main salon spans the full width amidship with a dinette to port and settee to starboard, anchored by a cherry dining table on a stainless pedestal. A dedicated navigation station features a lift-top desk with chart storage and custom-angled electronics housing. The galley is U-shaped with a Force 10 three-burner propane stove, microwave, and a Grunert refrigeration system with separate freezer and refrigerator compartments.

The electrical system includes separate 12-volt DC batteries for engine start and house loads, charged by dual alternators, plus a 50-amp shore power system with Heart Freedom inverter-charger and a Northern Lights 5-kilowatt genset. Climate control comprises two reverse-cycle 12,000-BTU air conditioning units and an Espar cabin heater. Electronics and navigation equipment include a Northstar 6000i GPS-chartplotter, Raymarine R40XX radar, Robertson autopilot with remote, B&G depth and wind instruments, and dual Icom VHF radios with DSC. The yacht carries a Lewmar electric windlass, dual anchors including a 60-pound CQR and 37-pound Fortress, ground tackle of 250 feet of chain and 200 feet of nylon rode, and a six-person liferaft with safety equipment.
