1999 Rustler 42

The Rustler 42 is hull number one of Stephen Jones's design, a proven offshore cruising yacht built to traditional principles with the strength and seaworthiness needed for extended passages in demanding conditions. Her long encapsulated lead ballast keel, substantial skeg-hung rudder, and generous displacement combine to create a stable, comfortable platform for ocean cruising, even when sailing short-handed. The fiberglass hull sits on a ballast keel and is powered by a 50 hp Beta Marine diesel engine installed in 2020.

Below deck, the layout provides two cabins and two heads, offering spacious accommodation suited to long passages. The interior has been thoughtfully maintained and improved, with ongoing professional care evident throughout.

Recent work and upgrades include a new Beta Marine engine in 2020, full replacement of standing rigging that same year, and a new Lewmar V2/V3 electric windlass. The underwater hull received an epoxy coating in 2024. Decks were refinished after teak removal in 2020, with Kiwi-Grip non-slip paint applied over epoxy. Navigation and safety systems are comprehensive: Raymarine C120 plotter with radar, Autohelm autopilot and navigation instrumentation, Icom VHF with DSC, AIS transceiver, Inmarsat satellite phone, and a Hydrovane self-steering gear. Power management includes three Victron gel batteries installed in 2024, solar panel with smart charge controller, and comprehensive battery monitoring. A Sidepower tunnel thruster and feathering propeller support manoeuvrability, and a Yamaha 4 hp outboard tender is included.
