2000 Catalina 36 MkII

The 2000 Catalina 36 MkII is a classic cruising sailboat built on the reputation of nearly 3,000 units produced over Catalina's 26-year production run. The Mark II refinement widens the beam aft, enlarging the cockpit and improving the aft quarter cabin—a key upgrade from the original design. Hand-laminated solid fiberglass hull with lead keel and integrally cast stainless steel bolts provide rugged durability. The moderate displacement hull tracks surely and performs well across varying conditions. Anodized spars and stainless steel railings reduce maintenance. A Universal 35 hp diesel engine powers the boat with a maximum speed of 7 knots and cruising speed of 6 knots.

On deck, the design prioritizes safety and ease of handling for a couple. Wide side decks, double lifelines, and a molded toe rail are standard. An anchor locker with stainless steel roller sits at the bow. All halyards lead aft to winches at the companionway for convenient sail handling. The cockpit features long bench seating, wheel steering aft, and a walkthrough transom with integrated swim platform and boarding ladder. The trunk cabin configuration is proven and functional, stepped through the deck on the keel with inline spreaders and fore-and-aft lower shrouds.

The interior layout divides into two private cabins across a well-appointed main saloon. Forward is a generous V-berth with head and shower to port and hanging locker to starboard. The main saloon offers a large U-shaped dinette to port with adjustable table, two comfortable chairs with small table to starboard, plus abundant storage and bookshelves. The aft galley includes a single large stainless steel sink, two-burner stove with oven, top-loading icebox, and ample storage. A navigation station sits opposite the galley, followed by the standout aft quarter cabin featuring a wide athwartship double berth easily accessed via the wider beam. Natural light enters throughout via numerous windows, portholes, and hatches. The cabin sole has been refinished to high gloss.

The rig is a masthead sloop with single spreader mast and fore-and-aft lower shrouds, balanced for performance and ease. Main sail handling is managed by a Dutchman system, and roller furling on the jib keeps sail control cockpit-based. Recent upgrades include lithium batteries, solar panels, AIS, StarLink connectivity, a navigation tablet added in December 2025, new upholstery, and various mechanical improvements.
