The Island Packet 420 is a 44-foot fiberglass cruising yacht powered by a 75-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine. Built in 2000 and recognized as Cruising World's Best Cruising Yacht that year, this boat exemplifies the design's reputation for robust construction and liveaboard capability. The 14-foot beam creates generous interior volume with exceptional storage and ventilation throughout.
The accommodations consist of a forward owner's cabin with offset double berth, private head with shower, and storage built-ins; an aft guest stateroom with private day head access; a full salon with port and starboard settees; a dedicated navigation station with chart table; and a well-equipped galley with three-burner stove, oven, and 11-cubic-foot refrigeration. The interior woodwork and cabin sole were refinished in 2021, and new salon cushions have been installed.
Significant mechanical and systems upgrades have been completed in recent years. The Yanmar engine received a new starter, water pumps, turbo, oil cooler, hoses, injectors, and valve seals. A 4-blade MaxProp Easy propeller with line cutter was installed in 2021. The standing rigging is approximately 1.5 years old, and new North Sails 3Di Ocean sails were added in 2021, including mainsail with in-mast furling, genoa, and staysail. All furlers have been rebuilt, and the boat carries an asymmetrical spinnaker on a top-down furler.
The electrical and power systems have been extensively upgraded for extended cruising. A 670-amp-hour Victron Super Cycle AGM house battery bank, installed 1.5 years ago, pairs with a 900-watt solar array and 400-watt wind generator. An 8-kilowatt Fischer Panda generator supports a 3000-watt Victron inverter/charger and integrated energy management system. Navigation equipment includes Garmin chartplotter, radar, AIS, and camera; Raymarine autopilot; and SSB and VHF radios. Fresh water production is handled by a two-year-old Spectra Cape Horn Extreme watermaker. The boat is outfitted with dual electric freshwater toilets, reverse-cycle AC units, and redundant fresh and seawater pump systems. An extensive spares inventory is onboard.
