The Catana 471 is a 47-foot composite catamaran built for blue-water cruising. Her design combines a high freeboard and substantial bridge-deck clearance with daggerboards that deliver strong upwind performance. The hull uses PVC foam core and vinylester resin reinforced with carbon and Kevlar, creating a structure that balances stiffness, strength, and light weight. Twin Yanmar diesel engines of 112 hp each provide a cruising speed of 7.5 knots and a maximum speed of 8.5 knots. The carbon rig with stainless shrouds and forestay completes a package built for safe, comfortable offshore passages.
The interior arranges three cabins and two heads, configured as an owner's version. The 2022 refit was undertaken with a focus on energy independence and extended off-grid cruising capability. A 1,200 amp-hour lithium battery bank pairs with a 3,080-watt solar array and complete Victron Energy management system, eliminating the need for a generator. Two 24,000 BTU DC air-conditioning units handle climate control.
The refit also strengthened safety systems. The hull-deck joint was fully reefed and recaulked. Ground tackle includes a Lewmar 2000-watt windlass paired with a 40-kilogram Rocna anchor. A new liferaft was also installed. This boat has remained in private ownership throughout its history and has never been chartered.
