2001 Freedom 40/40

The Freedom 40/40 is a 40-foot fiberglass sloop built at the Tillotson Pearson facility in Rhode Island. Known for seaworthiness and ease of handling, she features a carbon fiber mast, in-boom furling mainsail, and Hoyte boom on the jib. A single 57 horsepower Yanmar diesel engine, installed in 2017, powers the boat with a folding propeller.

This boat is outfitted for extended cruising and live-aboard use. Equipment includes a generator, water maker, bow thruster, davits, outboard motor, SSB radio, high-output alternator, solar panels, wind generator, inverter, and air conditioning. Electronics are recent additions and comprise autopilot, chart plotter, radar, and AIS transceiver for both sending and receiving.

The 40/40 carries systems designed for self-sufficiency, with solar and wind generation providing substantial electrical power reserves. An electric winch assists sail handling. Over the past eight years, the boat has received multiple upgrades to support comfortable extended time at anchor or under sail.
