2001 Hinckley Sou'wester 59

The Sou'wester 59 is a composite sloop designed by McCurdy & Rhodes and built by Hinckley between 1983 and 2001. This 2001 example represents the final and most refined iteration of the 16 boats in the class. Powered by a 154 hp Yanmar diesel, she reaches a cruising speed of 8 knots and a maximum speed of 9 knots. Her keel centerboard configuration draws 6 feet 6 inches with the board up and 12 feet 6 inches fully extended, enabling passage through shallow anchorages without compromising upwind sailing ability.

Below decks, the interior exemplifies Hinckley's approach to joinery and finish. Satin varnished cherry wood and solid teak and holly cabin soles create a warm, refined environment. Generous ports and hatches flood the accommodations with natural light. The boat contains three private cabins, with the owner's cabin featuring a private companionway to the aft deck. The main salon includes two additional adult berths and a child's berth. All mattresses are memory foam with custom-fitted Egyptian cotton sheets.

The galley and systems reflect careful provisioning for extended cruising. A high-capacity water maker, ample refrigeration and freezer space, and an Espar heating system combined with reverse cycle air conditioning support comfortable living aboard. Electric winches and an electric headsail furler simplify sail handling. Generous stowage throughout accommodates guests, provisions, and equipment. The boat draws on traditional Maine sailboat building craftsmanship and has been maintained to exacting standards by her current owner.
