2001 Kanter Bougainvillea 62

The Bougainvillea 62 is a 62-foot aluminum sailing yacht designed by Chuck Paine and built by Kanter Marine. Recognized as Offshore Cruiser of the Year in 1991, she combines a long waterline with a narrow beam-to-length ratio and features a bulbed lead keel for superior roll damping and tight pointing angles. Her enclosed pilothouse with navigation station and protected cockpit under a hard dodger and bimini create a comfortable helm environment. The design emphasizes single-handed and short-handed operation, with all sail controls led aft to the cockpit winches. A 150-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine installed in 2026 provides auxiliary power.

The interior layout accommodates two private sleeping cabins with double berths, plus additional berths totaling space for eight people across the boat. Two heads with showers serve the forward and aft cabins. The main salon features a full-beam U-shaped dinette and settee, while the galley is positioned for safe cooking underway with a three-burner propane stove, oven, and combination washer-dryer. The forward cabin includes an en suite head with shower, and a quarter berth is situated aft of the galley. Warm varnished cherry woodwork, white overhead panels, and teak and holly cabin soles throughout create a traditional finish. Abundant natural light comes through nine opening deck hatches, hull ports, and dorades.

The yacht is extensively outfitted for offshore cruising with redundancy throughout critical systems. Dual 24-volt battery chargers, a 500-amp-hour house battery bank, a 6-kilowatt diesel generator, 540 watts of solar panels, and a Silentwind wind generator provide multiple power sources. Two independent hydraulic autopilots, dual chartplotters, SSB transceiver, and Starlink satellite internet ensure navigation and communication capability worldwide. Three integral fuel tanks and two integral fresh water tanks provide substantial cruising range. Water ballast tanks and hot water systems are configured for efficient energy management underway.

Recent maintenance includes new standing rigging, a fresh engine installation, sandblasted and repainted bottom, new hull paint, and comprehensive engine room updates. Spars are carbon fiber with stainless steel rod rigging. Sails include North main, genoa, and staysail with furlers, plus a Code-0. Electric winches and a 24-volt windlass support deck operations. Safety equipment includes automatic bilge pumps, fire suppression in the engine room, a life raft, and emergency tiller.
