The 2002 Fountain Lightning is a 38-foot high-performance center console powered by twin Mercury Marine 575SCi engines modified to produce approximately 690 horsepower. The semi-staggered engine configuration provides more cockpit space than later staggered models while maintaining excellent handling characteristics and simplifying engine maintenance. The engines feature roller cams, intercoolers, and Weiand superchargers with front and rear oil baths delivering 3.5 pounds of boost, with stock ECMs limiting RPM to 5,350. Twin IMCO SCX-4 transmissions with number 6 shafts drive Hering 5-blade propellers; the skegs have been shortened and shaved for improved performance.
This boat reaches a top speed of 107 miles per hour and cruises at approximately 65 miles per hour. The fiberglass hull measures 8.5 feet at the beam and is built for offshore capability and speed. A switchable exhaust system is installed, with an optional set of mufflers available separately.
Deck equipment includes a bimini top with front and side curtains, full mooring and cockpit covers, and a charting display with compass and full complement of gauges. Navigation and safety gear consist of an anchor with chain, line reel, and a Porti-Potti that remains unused. The boat includes original Fountain pillows, a gear bag with documentation, manuals, and spare keys. A Myco aluminum tri-axle trailer with polished aluminum box, spare tire, jack, and recent brake and bearing service is included.
The boat comes with extensive spares and tools for maintenance, including new spark plugs, caps, rotors, fuel pumps, filters, stainless steel raw water pumps and impellers, and various used components. Engine cradles, drive jack, and two drive stands are provided.
