This 2002 Lyman-Morse Monhegan 30 is a 30-foot express cruiser built from fiberglass and epoxy with foam-core sandwich construction, reinforced by aluminum in structural locations. The hull design reflects traditional Downeast workboat aesthetics combined with timeless elegance. Powered by a single 350-horsepower Yammer diesel inboard engine driving a Hamilton 274 jet drive, the boat cruises economically at 18–20 knots, runs comfortably to 24 knots, and reaches approximately 28 knots at full throttle. The jet drive and all mechanical controls make the boat highly maneuverable and straightforward to operate.
The deck carries non-skid surfaces on the foredeck, side decks, and cabin roof. Teak is used throughout the cockpit and deck in very good condition, with all interior woodwork in teak, mahogany, or mahogany-faced plywood. The aft deck offers spacious seating, and a covered helm area accommodates up to six guests under removable canvas. Below, there is a V-berth with an ensuite head, fresh water sink, and two-burner propane stove.
Navigation and communication equipment includes a 2018 Raymarine suite with 9S Pro plotter, solid-state radar, fluxgate compass, and depth display, along with an Icom VHF radio with remote command microphone and AIS receiver. Ground tackle comprises a Maxwell low-profile windlass with helm control, a CQR working anchor with 25 feet of chain and 200 feet of nylon rode, and a Danforth spare anchor on all-rope rode. A raw water washdown pump with foredeck connection is included.
The engine shows 1,700 hours and has received annual maintenance since 2002, including a major preventative overhaul at 1,200 hours with new mixing elbow and alternator. The jet drive received major service in summer 2024 with new main bearing, water seal, and water bearing. The VelvetDrive transmission controls have been upgraded to a dual-action lever for synchronized throttle and shift. The original Awlgrip paint remains, though the bottom paint requires renewal work to address areas of failed adhesion and buildup, and the jet drive tail section has been scheduled for complete service and repainting as part of annual maintenance.
