2002 Northern Marine Schumacher 77

This 77-foot carbon performance sloop was designed by Carl Schumacher and built by Northern Marine in Seattle in 2002. The hull features five outer plies of carbon fiber with a one-inch balsa core, four inner carbon plies, and a cold-molded cedar interior skin. The deck combines carbon fiber and balsa core construction with teak overlay. The rudder is carbon composite, and the keel incorporates a bulb for enhanced performance. Integral laminated carbon fiber unidirectional chainplates are built into the hull.

The yacht is rigged as a 7/8 fractional sloop with an inner forestay and running backstays. A Yanmar 4LHA-DJE 165 hp four-cylinder diesel engine with shaft drive provides propulsion. Twin wheels are positioned in a large open aft cockpit. The deck layout places a trunk cabin forward with a pilot house aft, offering straightforward sight lines for sailing.

The interior features Madrona wood veneers selected and matched across four cabins, with all trim executed in solid Madrona. Four cabins and two heads provide comfortable accommodation for eight, while the boat is easily managed by two. The layout balances cruising capability with traditional styling throughout.
