2002 Pugh Windstar

This 54-foot Windstar is a John Pugh design built from solid fibreglass by Angelo Perry in Tasmania. The boat carries 25 tonnes displacement with a 7.5-tonne lead keel, offering strong sailing performance. A Volvo 6-cylinder diesel engine rated at 125 hp provides auxiliary power, with cruising speeds around 7 knots and a maximum of 8 knots. The ketch rig features all sails that furl from the cockpit for ease of handling.

Interior accommodation includes four cabins with eight berths total: a bow VIP cabin convertible to a double, a queen berth in the aft master suite, and six singles elsewhere. The headroom exceeds 1.95 metres throughout. West Australian Jarrah timber lines the interior, with new leather covers on the saloon seating. Two electric heads, two showers, and hot water from a 40-litre tank serve the accommodation. The galley sits in the saloon with extensive counter space, a gas cooker and oven, double stainless sink, a 50-litre top-loading fridge, and built-in freezer capacity of 700 litres split across two compartments.

The boat's systems reflect recent investment. Dual banks of 1200Ah Lithium batteries provide redundancy, supported by a Victron 3000-watt inverter and engine alternator charging. An Echotek watermaker produces 160 litres per hour. An Onan 7-kilowatt genset runs the onboard systems, with 3,053 hours on the meter. Solar panels rated at 750 watts are mounted on davits aft. Navigation and vessel monitoring are handled by a comprehensive Simrad suite installed within the last four years, including chartplotter, autopilot, depth sounder, log, wind instruments, radar, GPS, and VHF.

Recent work includes a new cutlass bearing, shaft coupling, diesel lines, and repacked shaft bearings in 2019, plus a new Simrad chartplotter in 2021. The hull received a recent respray. A large aft deck accommodates eight with a foldable dining table. The yacht runs on 1,000 litres of fuel and carries 1,000 litres of fresh water. A folding propeller and hydraulic steering complete the package.
