The Fast 42 is a 42-foot performance cruiser built in 2002 by Fast Yachts in South Africa to CE Category A offshore standards. Designed by the partnership of Alexander Simonis and Maarten Voogd, the hull combines speed and comfort with a cruising speed of 8 knots under her 40 hp Volvo diesel engine. The boat's fiberglass construction and hand-built quality reflect the skilled craftsmanship for which South African boatbuilders are known globally.
Accommodations include three cabins—two private aft staterooms and a forward V-berth—plus a full head with shower. The main salon features professionally refinished cherry wood joinery, a large dinette with abundant natural light from replaced portlights, and a well-designed galley with a gimbaled Force 10 stove, stainless steel sink, and ample counter and storage space. A spacious cockpit with a new dodger and canvas provides protected control and gathering space.
The boat has received substantial upgrades and maintenance over recent years. Recent work includes a 2021 carbon fiber mast by Offshore Spars with standing rod rigging, new Harken jib furler, professionally refinished interior, and integrated Raymarine electronics. A 2020 haul-out included an Awlgrip refinish of decks and topsides, new portlights, and sail-drive service. Additional enhancements include a carbon sprit, Larry Tuttle carbon fiber rudder, modified steering and deep rudder for handling, and a comprehensive electrical system with Lifeline AGM batteries, solar panels with regulator, and charger/inverter. Electronics comprise Raymarine T60 displays, Axiom+ 12, Jumbo mast displays, integrated ship's computer, digital radar, SAT phone, and AIS.
Ground tackle includes dual anchoring systems with a 35-lb Delta and Fortress F23 anchor, chain and rode stored at bow and stern. Deck equipment features a Maxwell windlass, removable stern roller, and an 11'6" Achilles inflatable tender with 8 hp Yamaha outboard stowed on the foredeck. A comprehensive sail inventory covers cruising and performance scenarios, including new 2021 Ullman Sails carbon main and jib. Safety systems include heavy-duty keel bolts, crash boxes, life vests with strobes, jacklines, dual manual bilge pumps, emergency tiller, and independent emergency rudder.
