This 2002 True North 38 is a fiberglass Downeast cruiser built by Pearson shipyard. The design centers on a distinctive reverse transom that maintains the boat's traditional sweeping sheer while opening to provide easy water access for swimming or tender retrieval. Power comes from a single Yanmar 6LY2A diesel engine rated at 440 horsepower, chosen for dependable cruising and fuel efficiency.
The layout flows openly from the transom to the helm, with a pilothouse enclosed by canvas and isinglass. The pilothouse houses a settee convertible to a berth and observer's chair to port, while the galley and helm occupy the starboard side. The forward stateroom features a double berth, enclosed head with shower, hanging locker, and storage cabinetry. Garmin navigation electronics dominate the helm: a 7616 chartplotter paired with an 8610 display, Reactor autopilot with GHC 20 control, VHF 115, AIS 600 transceiver, and 404xHD open array radar.
Thruster capability comes from Sidepower proportional bow and stern units with Dock Hold; the bow thruster motor was replaced in 2025. Climate control includes reverse-cycle air conditioning and an Espar diesel furnace. Notable systems include a Sonihull SHO2 ultrasonic antifouling system, Reverso oil change system, SeaFire automatic fire extinguisher, Vacuflush toilet, and Magna Sine wave inverter/charger. The turbo was replaced in 2020, hydraulic steering in 2020, and all hoses and stainless clamps in 2020. An 8.5-foot inflatable tender from 2012 is included.
