The Discovery 55 is a 55-foot fiberglass sailing yacht built in 2004, designed by Ron Holland with interiors by Ken Freivokh. She combines bluewater cruising capability with refined comfort, powered by a single Perkins Sabre diesel engine of 115 horsepower. The yacht accommodates three cabins and two heads, making her suitable for extended passages and remote anchorages alike.
The deck layout emphasizes practicality and seaworthiness. A generous teak swim platform with davits sits aft, leading to wide teak side decks and a fully equipped foredeck. The cockpit features electric winches on port and starboard for foresails and a central electric winch for the mainsail, providing excellent helm control under a protective bimini. Stainless steel hardware and teak throughout reflect the yacht's durability.
Below, the saloon opens to panoramic windows and offers a wraparound settee to port with dining table, navigation station to starboard, and a full-beam owner's suite with en suite bathroom. Forward are two additional guest cabins with a shared bathroom and dedicated galley. Engine access is provided through a walk-in engine room accessible from the owner's bathroom. The interior combines rich wood joinery with luxury fabrics, all finished in the Ken Freivokh style.
Extensive work was completed in 2024 and 2025, including a full hull repaint in Awlcraft with ceramic coating and long-life antifouling, replacement of standing and running rigging, a complete new Victron electrical system with AGM batteries ready for solar integration, new engine components, updated upholstery and headlining throughout, and comprehensive service of all mechanical systems. All teak seams were recaulked and fenders, safety equipment, and ground tackle renewed.
