2004 Northern Bay 31

A 2004 Northern Bay 31 downeast with a solid fiberglass hull and vinylester exterior layer, hand-laid and built by Stephan Newman. The boat was repowered in 2024 with a new Yanmar 6LY400CR diesel and ZF85A transmission, delivering 400 horsepower. Performance runs at 21 knots at cruising speed with 70 percent load (consuming 14 gallons per hour) and 25 knots at wide-open throttle. A new four-blade Acme 22x18 propeller was installed this season. Engine hours are approximately 350.

The boat carries substantial fuel capacity with a new 170-gallon tank installed in 2025 and a 50-gallon water tank. Power systems include four new 6V house batteries and a single 4D engine battery, all refreshed in 2026, paired with a new Xantrex 1000-watt inverter and charger. Fresh water is available from a cockpit shower with hot and cold supply. Galley includes a Seafrost DB refrigerator box.

Navigation and communication equipment includes dual-screen Simrad EVO3 displays, Simrad radar, Simrad autopilot, a new Icom radio, and an Airmar 1000-kilowatt transducer—all installed in 2021. Electronics are rounded out with a Morad antenna. A custom mast with Durabright lighting was recently added. Windows throughout were replaced with Bomon units in 2025. The hull underwent soda blasting last season, all through-hulls were replaced, and the bottom received new paint.
